The Dairy Innovation Hub has released its sixth annual report, providing a comprehensive overview of the progress and activities achieved between July 2024 and June 2025. This critical document, which reflects efforts at UW–Madison, UW–Platteville, and UW–River Falls, details major accomplishments since the Hub’s inception and outlines the strategic successes of the preceding fiscal year. It serves as a transparent measure of the Hub’s commitment to strengthening the Wisconsin dairy community through science, talent development, and key collaboration.

A core operational highlight is the vast scale of the Hub’s research portfolio, with more than 260 projects funded across its three participating university campuses. These projects are strategically aligned with the organization’s four priority areas—a focus that is intended to ensure all research directly addresses industry challenges. Additionally, the Hub has made substantial investments in its workforce, completing 23 total faculty searches across the campuses, with plans for more future recruitment to bolster its capacity for groundbreaking research and development.

In terms of financial investment, the Hub has allocated significant resources to both talent and new initiatives. The report details $4.2 million dedicated to dairy talent development through recently hired faculty, trainees, and staff—a critical investment in the future of the dairy workforce. Furthermore, a total of $7.8 million was allocated for new dairy initiatives specifically during the 2025 fiscal year. This funding is drawn from a recurring annual state investment of $7.8 million provided by the State of Wisconsin.

The Hub’s efforts have yielded notable academic research achievements, which include significant engagement of students, the publication of scholarly articles, various professional presentations, and the successful leveraging of external funding sources. The framework facilitating this success involves collaborative and synergistic initiatives spanning the three university campuses, guided by an engaged advisory council and three active steering committees that ensure strategic oversight and industry relevance.

Committed to transparency and knowledge sharing, the Hub is inviting the broader industry to its sixth annual Dairy Summit conference on November 18 at UW–River Falls. This free educational event is specifically formatted for a general audience, featuring the Hub’s newest projects. Farmers, processors, dairy professionals, legislators, and community members are encouraged to attend, with a live virtual option available and all sessions recorded and posted to YouTube. The Hub’s ongoing research ensures the state’s $52.8 billion dairy community remains a global pacesetter in the sector, emphasizing economic, environmental, and social sustainability.
