Yes, lottery fever is sweeping across the U.S. as the Mega Millions jackpot has hit its second-highest amount ever at $1.1 Billion.
We posted a question in the Dairy Mom Facebook group asking, “What would you do if you won the Mega Millions?” Several producers instantly began dreaming about how they’d spend their newfound wealth.
Stephanie Krueger, who milks 100 cows in Arlington, Minn., says she would invest her lottery winnings back into her 100-cow dairy farm.
“I would invest in a rotary robot parlor for my hubby,” she says.
Erin Kenneke from Manitowoc, Wis., says her husband told her he would buy all new tractors and if one broke, he would just buy a new one.
Loretta Muller Wright, a retired dairy farmer from Maryland, says that while their cows have been gone for four years now, she would buy several Madison quality show cows, invest 4-5 million and donate the rest to St. Jude’s to fight childhood cancer.
Taylor Ziegler with Villa Pine Farm in Myerstown, Pa., says she would build a micro plant to make milk, cheese and ice cream.
“I would pay off the farm,” says Joni Gill-Grunnet, who milks 100 cows in Brooklyn, Wis. “Just give a facelift to the place. Build a new farmhouse and keep back my favorite cows. Buy my husband a new combine and a semi that he’s always wanted. And invest in land.”
Joyce Racicky from Mason City, Neb., says she would hire really good, reliable help. “And, take my family on a big vacation,” she says. “Then decide if we still want cows.”
Kristina Haverkamp who milks 800 cows in Seneca, Kan., says if she won the lottery, the cows would be loaded on the trailer the next day. “Our bodies are shot and we are exhausted,” she says. “But, we would buy all the farm ground we could get our hands on.”
Several other moms chimed in – spending the mega millions in a million different ways. The question does beg to ask, “How you would spend the Mega Millions if you won?”
