  • Its first slogan was “Delicious and healthy, Danone is the dessert for a good digestion” and the brand has always been committed to healthy eating.
  • In 1972, Daniel Carasso and Antoine Riboud joined forces to create BSN-Gervais Danone.

2. NESTLE:

  • Nestlé has more than 8,000 brands and markets a range of products from soups, ice cream and coffee to bottled water and health nutrition.
  • There are 447 Nestlé factories in 86 countries around the world.
  • Henri Nestle initially developed a milk-based baby food and later merged with Anglo-Swiss in 1905.
  • The company was caught up in the 2013 meat adulteration scandal and recalled its Buitoni veal pasta dishes as they had traces of horse DNA.

3. SAPUTO:

  • In the early 1950s, the Saputo family left their hometown of Montelepre, Sicily, to start a new life in Canada.
  • In the 1960s and 1970s, Saputo experienced a period of significant growth, becoming the largest mozzarella producer in Canada.
  • The Company’s first major production facility was built in the Saint-Michel district of Montreal. This event coincided with the sudden rise in popularity of pizza among North American consumers.

4. AMUL:

  • Formed in 1946, it is a cooperative brand managed by Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF), which today is jointly controlled by 36 lakh milk producers in Gujarat and the apex body of 13 district milk unions.
  • Word AMUL stands for Anand Milk Union Limited. Kaira Union introduced the brand “Amul” for marketing its product range. The word “Amul” is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Amulya’ which means ‘priceless’ or ‘precious’, a name proposed by the founding leader of Anand Agriculture College, Maganbhai Patel.
  • In 1966, Amul hired Sylvester da Cunha to design an advertising campaign for Amul Butter. DaCunha designed a campaign as a series of billboards with topical advertisements, related to day-to-day issues. [23] It was popular and won a Guinness World Record for the longest running advertising campaign in the world.
  • In February 2020, Amul posted a photo of the Amul girl treating Joaquin Phoenix with butter after winning an academy award for his role in the 2019 film, Joker . [28] Given that Phoenix is vegan, Amul faced criticism from vegans in India and PETA for poor awareness of her vegan activism and life.

5. LACTALIS:

  • October 19, 1933 marks the beginning of Lactalis. André Besnier produces his first 17 camembert cheeses, using 35 liters of milk collected near Laval (France).
  • In 1948, the company became the “SARL Société Laitière de Laval A. Besnier & Cie” surpassed the 10,000-liter milk collection milestone. This milestone was made possible by the dynamic and imaginative commercial policy of André Besnier, who was already accompanied by 25 employees.
  • André Besnier, an ambitious and sharp strategist, also marketed drinking milk and was one of the first to market milk in one-liter glass bottles under the brand name “SSL Le Bon Lait”.
  • In 1999, the Besnier company adopted the name of the Lactalis Group in response to its internationalization, since it is more easily understood and pronounced on all five continents. Prior to this, it was called Lactel.
  • Puleva is part of the French business group ‘Lactalis’ (the third largest in the dairy sector worldwide).
