Portugal’s association of milk producers (Aprolep) is desperate to receive more money for their milk.

Cowsheds are ‘closing every week’ due to spiralling costs, while many producers are sending animals to slaughter in order to save on feeding bills.

Hopes are that supermarkets will agree to an average value of 50 cents per kilo (they are currently pegged at 43 cents).

As Aprolep explains, Portuguese dairy farmers are a great deal worse off than other European counterparts.

Bilateral beef trade and Canada’s dairy supply management system are top trade issues Canadian Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay is prepared to confront with the incoming Trump administration, he said on Monday.
