Lactalis is a multinational dairy company owned by the Besnier family, founded over 80 years ago, based in Laval, Mayenne, France.
The company became in 2021 the largest dairy producer in the world and the second largest food company in France behind Danone.
Brands such as Puleva, Sorrento, Société, Bridel, Président, Rachel’s Organic and Valmont belong to the group.
After the purchase of Parmalat in 2011 and after a movement of assets from the other dairy companies, Lactalis became the world’s leading dairy group, employing more than 75,000 people in 70 countries around the world, with a presence in America, with plants in Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, but no longer in Argentina.
In the last year, Lactalis sold the La Mucca cheese company, which it had in Argentina, and was left with a simple operation to import premium cheeses.
“The frogs have already left” murmurs were heard in the corridors of eDairyNews “they already fired all the people they had in La Mucca”. The truth is that even the offices with which they had stayed in Buenos Aires to continue importing President, Parmalat and others, were closed on the last day of February.
