An Illinois farmer’s daughter, my daughter, Cassie Bohnert, helped kick off the campaign by making her own TikTok video.

From the comfort of our family dairy’s freestall barn in East Moline, Ill., Cassie explained the contest parameters in her debut TikTok video which includes:

  • The Cheese Pull TikTok contest deadline is 5/19.
  • We want high school teams, clubs, and organizations to create a creative grilled cheese sandwich and post a video to TikTok with the hashtag #ihsadairy
  • The top 4 recipes/videos will then be voted on by the general public
  • The winner will win a chance to cook with a Chicago Bear in Chicago
  • The top recipes will be featured in a recipe book.”

Selena King, wellness manager with Midwest Dairy, says the Cheese Pull TikTok Challenge was created to reach high schoolers through social media and add a fun challenge to it.

“We want to see the best and most creative grilled cheese sandwiches around, so we want high school teams to get together and create videos of their best grilled cheese sandwiches,” she says. “We want to showcase how this generation is using dairy. The winning entry will have the chance to cook their recipe with a Chicago Bear.”

Midwest Dairy shared that Cassie seemed like a perfect person to introduce the campaign, as she hails from an Illinois dairy farm and is an active member of her high school’s varsity basketball team.

“I also happen to love grilled cheese,” Cassie adds, stating in the video her favorite grilled cheese is made with Swiss cheese.

“I think this is a great way to connect with teenagers,” she adds. “They are obviously on TikTok, and I love that I can help promote the wholesomeness of dairy to my fellow peers.”

Cassie adds that in addition to playing on her United Township High School’s varsity basketball team, she is also an active member of our family dairy farm. She notes that many times after basketball practice, she would come home and make a grilled cheese or pour a glass of chocolate milk to recover.

“Dairy has a great story and I’m happy to share that any way I can. I really love that I can showcase two of my passions together—basketball and our family dairy together by promoting this contest,” she says.
