Outgoing dairy princess Elektra Kehagias and her court of dairy promoters have spent the last year attending gatherings and parades, and making appearances in grocery stores and other events promoting dairy products both locally and statewide.
Elektra noted that Pennsylvania is ranked eighth in the nation for dairy production, producing 10.6 billion pounds of milk annually. She plans to continue her support of the dairy industry and its farmers, and intends to study law and work on public policy and legislation. “Our food security is a matter of national security,” she said.
Sydney Roberts, the newly crowned Wayne County dairy princess, presented an enthusiastic speech, including her goals of not only promoting dairy products but also the farmers whose hard work and long hours make it all possible. She plans to spread the word among her peers, suggesting others get involved with the 4-H program as well as Future Farmers of America (FFA). “It is crucial for the stability of the industry that we not only support the existing members of dairy farming, but that we build a larger community,” she said.
