The Ontario government is investing $300,000 dollars into training for young dairy farmer hopefuls.
University of Guelph’s Ridgetown Campus’ Dairy Herdsperson Apprenticeship program will be expanding to offer a hybrid, distance education option, per the province of Ontario’s news release.
Director of the campus, Brett Sheperd, says he is thrilled with the support and the investment.
Sheperd, when asked for a way to describe dairy farmers and their impact, had a powerful response.
Sheperd says securing the funding is just the beginning.
Sheperd added this is the first skills development fund application for his campus, and that Ridgetown’s hard working staff are thrilled to welcome the program training in animal health, herd maintenance and more.
