Dairy farm | Owensville dairy farm getting renewable energy grant from USDA

The USDA is investing more than $5 million for 23 renewable energy projects across Indiana.

One of them is in Gibson County.

In Owensville, officials say New Generation Dairy, Inc. will use a $125,976 grant to buy and install a new dairy chiller.

They say the new equipment is expected to save the farm $127,092 each year.

Additionally, the new chiller will replace 97% of the farm’s electricity consumption, which is equivalent to powering 121 households.

“Clean energy is not only important for the well-being of our planet, but it is also crucial in ensuring the prosperity and sustainability of rural Indiana. By investing in clean energy projects, we are not only protecting the environment but also creating new opportunities for our communities,” said Dr. Terry Goodin, U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Indiana State Director. “These projects not only provide clean energy solutions but also create jobs and stimulate local economies.”
