Government to pay farmers for testing cows for bird flu

The Federal Government wants to stop the spread of the bird flu on dairy farms, so farmers will now get paid to test their cows.

The bird flu outbreak in dairy cows was first announced in March.

Forty-two herds in nine states have been affected by the outbreak.

The government plans to spend nearly $200 million to test cows and dairy farmers to try and understand how widespread the problem is.

So far, just one person in Texas has tested positive for the virus during this outbreak and his only symptom was pinkeye.
