Kelly Wilfert, a member of the Manitowoc County Breakfast on the Farm team gave some statistics about Wisconsin Dairy production ahead of the June breakfast and because of June Dairy Month. She says dairy is still an economic driver in the county.
“Manitowoc County actually consistently ranks within the top three counties for milk production in the state, and the top 25 nationally,” she explained.
Of course, a lot of milk produced by dairy farmers across Wisconsin usually gets turned into cheese. Wilfert says we produce a lot.
According to wisconsindairy.org, there are over 7,000 registered dairy farms with an average of 150 cows a herd.
Libertyland Farms in Newton has about 360 total cows, with about 300 being milked.
Breakfast on the Farm takes place on Sunday, June 9th from 8 am until noon.
