Dairy | WEAK SOUTHEAST ASIA DAIRY DEMAND WEIGHS ON EXPORTS

The U.S. Dairy Export Council says dairy shipments slipped five percent in May compared to the month before because of mixed demand.

The U.S. Dairy Export Council says dairy shipments slipped five percent in May compared to the month before because of mixed demand.

Total U.S. dairy export values are down six percent year to date while volumes are down two percent.

The export council is expecting record high cheese shipments for the year with sales up 27 percent for the first five months of the year. May cheese exports increased 47 percent from 2023.

High protein whey shipments rose 19 percent while low-protein whey product exports increased 17 percent.

The dairy council points to reduced demand from Southeast Asia, including a 51 percent decline in nonfat dry milk/skim milk powder, as a large factor for May’s weaker performance.
