National milk output rose 1.4% YOY in September, bringing season-to-date output 1.9% ahead of the prior year comparable. The Dairy Australia data indicates milk production remains lower than pre-pandemic comparables.

In Victoria, milk production rose 2% YOY for the month, with the north +4.5% YOY and Gippsland up 5.6% YOY. In contrast, the west of the state continues to suffer from dry conditions, down 3.8% YOY for the month. Its reported reasonable volumes of grass silage have been made in the region, however the season will be short and financial pressures acute.

In NSW production jumped 6.3% YOY in September, with the season now 5.4% ahead of the prior year. In Tasmania, output continues to lag with September production down 3.8% YOY, taking season-to-date production 5.1% behind the prior season.
