Soummam launches milk powder tender for Q1 2025

Following the issuing of import derogations two weeks ago by the Algerian government, market participants expected Algerian market participants to return to the global dairy market. Soummam, one of Algeria’s largest private dairy buyers, launched a new tender for 4,000 MT SMP MH as well as 1,000 MT SMP UHT, delivery Q1 2025. The tender will be closing on November 13 with sellers across the globe expected to bid. However, due to the short delivery period, European suppliers are expected to cover the majority of the volumes, market participants indicated.

According to multiple industry sources, the return of Soummam could just be the beginning of the return of buying interest from Algeria, as the Algerian buying agency ONIL (Office National Interprofessionnel du Lait et de Produits Laitiers), has been reported to closely monitor the current developments on the global milk powder market, and is expected to launch a milk powder tender in the coming weeks.

Expana will continue to monitor the market situation closely during the coming weeks and will follow up with any news regarding the dairy market. If there are any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me directly.
