Babcock Dairy announced Tuesday it has expanded its voluntary recall on ice cream that may have been mislabeled.
The recall applies to Orange Custard Chocolate Chip ice cream that the store said may have been labeled as Chocolate Peanut Butter. The half gallon size of the ice cream was produced between Sept. 17-30. The original recall alert only listed Sept. 17 as the day the product was produced.
A first lot impacted was found on Nov. 4 when a customer reported the ice cream was mislabeled, and a second lot was added on Monday.
The company asks those who bought the affected product to check the production date, which is on the bottom of the container, and look to see if it says 09 1724 or 09 3024.
There have not been any illnesses reported associated with the mislabeling, Babcock Dairy explained. It said those who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs are at risk of an allergic reaction if they eat the affected product.
The ice cream was distributed to Babcock Dairy Store, Metcalfe’s Markets, Ken’s Meats & Deli and the Capitol Centre Market. Customers who have the affected ice cream are asked to return it to the store it was bought at to request a full refund.
Babcock Dairy added it has taken corrective steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again, including retraining employees on labeling procedures, adding verification checks with packaging and increasing the organization of packaging material.
