Raw Farm recalls all products after bird flu detected

The Fresno based dairy has pulled all of its products at the request of the state.

Fresno’s Raw Farm LLC has expanded its recall of raw milk products in stores late Tuesday.

The dairy has now recalled all whole milk and cream products after bird flu was found at its facilities in Fresno and Kings Counties.

Flashback: Raw Farm issued a voluntary recall of some of its raw milk products last week after bird flu was discovered in some retail products.

The big picture: All milk and cream products that were not included in last week’s recalls have been voluntarily recalled.

  • The recall ensures that all milk and cream products produced between Nov. 9 and Nov. 27 are taken off the shelves.

State of play: The voluntary recall does not affect all other products produced by Raw Farm, including cheese and kefir, but the California Department of Public Health is urging consumers to avoid consuming any of the dairy’s products.

  • Raw Farm has also been placed under quarantine by the California Department of Food and Agriculture and has been suspended from distributing raw milk, cream, kefir, butter and cheese products produced on or after Nov. 27.
  • State officials are also warning consumers against using raw milk pet food topper and pet food kefir.
  • There have not been any human bird flu cases associated with Raw Farm.

Zoom out: So far the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that there have been 57 people infected with bird flu across the nation this year, which includes 31 people in California.

What they’re saying: Raw Farm said in a post on Instagram that the state’s focus on the dairy is a political issue.

  • “There are no food safety issues with our products or consumer safety,” Raw Farm said. “We are working towards resolving this political issue while being cooperative with our government regulatory agencies.”
  • The dairy added, “Our family business has faced many political challenges before and we are resilient. We want to assure you that our team is doing all we can to get back to full supply and to delivering to all stores near you.”
