The nutraceutical company believes that protein, gut wellness, specialised supplements and healthy ageing will take the spotlight in 2025, while companies will place a strong focus on sustainability.
Protein and prebiotics specialist FrieslandCampina Ingredients has outlined its top functional food trends of 2025 in a new report.
Drawing on consumer research, the company covers the five trends that it believes will shape the food, beverage and supplement industries in 2025.
It has highlighted:
- Protein: Protein supplementation has become hugely popular for individuals of all ages and activity levels. Today, 71% of consumers actively prioritise protein in their diets, which has risen from 67% in 2023. As this sector continues to grow, brands have the opportunity to provide tailored, multifunctional solutions that excel in terms of quality, value and sustainability.
- Gut health: Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the impact of gut health on our overall wellbeing, and a long-term staple in this area is yoghurt. FrieslandCampina believes this format holds great potential, as brands can create tasty and tailored products with new health benefits.
- Healthy ageing: The healthy ageing phenomenon doesn’t just appeal to the older generations any more, as younger people have started to consider how their current lifestyle choices may impact their long-term health. However, FrieslandCampina warn that it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach, as different demographics will have various ageing priorities.
- Specialised supplements: There is a huge amount of choice for consumers purchasing supplements, so people are highly interested in specialist solutions that are catered to supporting their specific health goals. By creating tailored solutions, brands can stand out from the crowd.
- Sustainability: Consumers in the modern world are consistently looking to buy from brands that are transparent in their sustainability goals, as many become more environmentally conscious. Therefore, FrieslandCampina believes that every stakeholder within the food, beverage and nutrition industries will need to have it at the forefront of their operations.
“Technology is a driving force in today’s nutritional landscape,” says Vicky Davies, Global Marketing Director, Performance, Active and Medical Nutrition.
“Armed with personalised health data and the endless possibilities of AI, people are feeling more empowered to take control of their well-being. Add to this the pressures of an increasingly cost- and eco-conscious world, and we’re seeing that 2025’s trends highlight a growing need for brands to provide tailored, multifunctional solutions that excel on quality, value and sustainability.”
“As trends continue to evolve, our team of experts in performance, active, and medical nutrition, along with our innovative protein and prebiotic solutions, are here to help brands stay ahead of the curve and prepare for the future of nutrition.”
