Monarch Tractor’s Electric MK-V enhances dairy operations with autonomous feeding technology.
With Monarch Tractor’s latest innovation to its MK-V, dairy operations now have a fully electric, driver-optional tractor. The new technology leverages artificial intelligence to perform operations like autonomous feed pushing to ensure cows are fed hourly.
“Autonomous feed pushing offers immense value to dairy farmers by improving operational efficiency while increasing milk production,” says Praveen Penmetsa, CEO of Monarch Tractor. “It allows the dairy farmers to focus on what matters most — the health and well-being of their animals.”
The MK-V was first introduced as a concept machine four years ago. The latest update combines Monarch’s Row Follow guidance system and its autonomous system, called Autodrive, to take the driver out of the seat for dairy operations. With their predictable, flat ground, broad lanes and generous headland space, outdoor dairies are optimal for autonomous operation.
The machine can work in and around outdoor feed lanes, as well as outdoor lanes covered with shade cloth. Monarch is testing Autodrive for partially covered and indoor dairies. Also, the company is refining its Autodrive technology with robust testing on vertically trellised farms, including vineyards, apples and cherries, as well as berries, sod and solar.
The MK-V Dairy is also a mobile power wall with 12-, 110- and 220-volt plugs. Stored power gives a farm greater security against power outages.
“Enabling our tractors to autonomously perform a complex task like feed pushing was a significant technical achievement,” says Saurabh Gupta, chief product office at Monarch Tractor. “Replicating the nuanced decision-making of a human driver in a dynamic farm environment demands an incredibly sophisticated AI system.”
