Dairy farmers have taken to the social media platform TikTok in droves to protest against the milk buyer Müller, who has been asking producers to dump milk.
Thousands of litres of milk have been disposed off on farms across the country as Müller have been unable to collect and instructed supplies to safely get rid of milk.
One farmer believes that the issue is affecting more than 100 farmers who were previously on Yew Tree contracts before Müller took bought the company over.
Müller have admitted an operational issue at the Skelmersdale site but state it has now been resolved. The company also stressed that all farmers will be ‘compensated in full’.
Marc Harvey has been a dairy producer for more than 26 years and said he has seen nothing like it. He said: “Six months with Müller Yewtree and what is going on is beyond words.
“Rules and regulations mean we can’t even give that milk away. We’re achieving our carbon footprint, meeting biodiversity challenges and ticking all the boxes the government want. And what do we get, another day and another load of milk down the drain.
“It’s a complete waste. To add insult to injury, Müller does not even have the decency to contact their suppliers and let them know what’s going on. We’re already under enough financial pressure from this government without further price constraints, and the bad price paid to us compared to the profit Muller is making. It’s an absolute joke”.
However, the milk giants have said that a lot of ‘inaccuracies’ have been shared on social media.
A spokesperson for Müller Milk & Ingredients said: “Due to an operational issue at our Skelmersdale site, which has now been resolved, we asked some supplying farmers to responsibly dispose of the milk that was due for collection.
“Those impacted were all contacted and will be compensated in full.”
