Farmer-owned processor doubles jobs and capacity with cutting-edge UHT and RO systems.
Cayuga Milk Ingredients, a farmer-owned dairy processor based in Aurelius, NY, celebrated the grand opening of a two-phase, $270 million expansion on June 18. Governor Kathy Hochul led the event, highlighting how the investment amplifies support for New York’s dairy farmers and strengthens the region’s role in the national dairy sector.
The expansion is set to more than triple the plant’s employment footprint, adding up to 150 new full-time positions to the current 100—plus around 350 construction jobs. The State supported the project with a $4 million capital grant and up to $4 million in Excelsior Jobs Tax Credits tied to job.
Phase one upgrades included installing ultra-high-temperature (UHT)/aseptic low-acid packaging lines and a reverse osmosis filtration system. Phase two focuses on additional machinery and the expansion of the wastewater treatment infrastructure—enhancing production efficiency and sustainability.
Leveraging a vertically integrated model, Cayuga Milk processes high-quality milk into premium dairy ingredients—such as high-protein milk, powders, and ultrafiltered products—with enhanced traceability and environmental stewardship. The new systems further enable the company to meet expanding global demand while maintaining strong sustainability standards.
Governor Hochul emphasized the expansion as a critical economic driver during Dairy Month. The project underlines New York’s status as a leading milk producer—with nearly 3,000 dairy farms supporting billions of pounds in annual output—and showcases successful public-private collaboration.
