Cambridge agri‑tech startup scales gene‑expression tool EpiHerd to elevate milk yield, herd health, and profitability across Europe.
Antler Bio, a female-founded Cambridge-based agritech company, has secured a €3.6 million funding round—bringing total funding to around €7.2 million including grants—to grow its EpiHerd system aimed at dairy productivity.
EpiHerd leverages epigenomic analysis by sampling blood from approximately 10% of a herd, tracking cows’ gene responses to environmental and nutritional stressors. This enables early alerts on dehydration, stress, or dietary gaps, empowering farmers with actionable recommendations to optimize milk output.
Already live across 100+ farms in Europe—primarily the Nordics—EpiHerd results include average milk yield increases up to 22%, along with 6% more milk fat and 5% more protein, delivering an estimated 7:1 ROI for producers.
Led by The First Thirty Ventures (agri‑health specialists), with participation from Endgame Capital and Generation‑RE, the funding will scale EpiHerd to thousands of farms, grow Antler Bio’s team, and refine its technology for sustained market impact.
With rising pressure on dairy margins, regulatory demands, and evolving milk‑quality standards globally, EpiHerd offers a precision tool to boost herd well‑being, sustainability, and farm resilience without requiring major infrastructure changes.
