The Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), a national milk marketing cooperative, say milk sales declined nationally in 2018. Sales of the traditional staple drink were down about $1.1 billion.
The DFA says part of that drop was due to milk prices being lower, but experts believe the rising popularity of dairy substitutes and plant-based milks also are a major factor in the drop-off consumption.
One Swedish oat milk brand saying it couldn’t keep up with demand in 2018. Meanwhile, the DFA days it will try to expand its export markets, as well as try new stateside initiatives.
