Vermont's congressional delegation is reminding the state's dairy farmers about an upcoming deadline to sign up for a program that will help them when milk prices are low.

Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy, independent Sen. Bernie Sanders and U.S. Rep. Peter Welch, also a Democratic, say the last day to sign up for the Dairy Margin Coverage program is this Friday.
More than 500 eligible Vermont dairy producers have already signed up and received payments.
In a joint statement, Leahy, Sanders and Welch say that at times when farmers receive a fair price for their milk, the program is automatically sidelined, but when prices are low, as they are now, it is an important risk management tool.
To enroll, farmers should contact their county Farm Service Agency office.
