In order to better track this we are adding a milk solids measure to our webpage which will combine the volume of milk produced with the average fat and protein in that milk. The new data can be found here.
At the beginning of the 2019/20 season, high fat and protein content, alongside high milk production, meant that UK solids production was significantly above year-ago levels. From October to January, milk production dropped below the previous year, but composition remained high. This offset the lower milk production, and kept solids production roughly in line with the previous year. In the first 10 months of the season, the UK has produced 960k tonnes of milk solids, up 2% on the same period last year.
