Demand for milk is high at the grocery store, but the impact of the coronavirus on the industry remains to be seen with schools and restaurants closed.

For February at least, it appears cow numbers are starting to rebound. The USDA reports that milk production in the top 24 states during February was just over 17 billion pounds. That’s up 5.6% percent from last year.

Production averaged 1,927 pounds per cow, 94 pounds above last year. The number of milk cows was 8.8 million head. That’s up 8,000 on the month and 18,000 over last year.
