The Maple View Farm and Milk Company, which provides the dairy for Maple View Ice Cream, announced Wednesday they are closing after 25 years in operation.

The Hillsborough company shared a message on Facebook, saying its last day of bottling milk will be Monday, September 6. Maple View Farm is asking that all glass milk bottles be turned in for deposit refunds by September 20.

“The cattle are all going to a good home and will be missed immensely,” the company said in a statement. “We thank all of our customers, friends, and family that have supported us day in and day out.”

For fans of Maple View’s ice cream: the company said this change in operations will not affect its store near Chapel Hill. Wednesday’s message said the Maple View Ice Cream and Country Store is “here to stay.”

“You will still be able to get farm fresh milk, butter, eggs, cheeses, and more at the country store,” said Maple View.

Ice cream will continue to be made on-site at Maple View’s Chapel Hill location, but the dairy supplier will be different. After the Farm and Milk Company closes its doors, Maple View Ice Cream will partner with the Simply Natural Creamery in Ayden, N.C.

“We selected Simply Natural because they use the butterfat content and natural products that are critical to high quality ice cream. Their dairy products are remarkably like Maple View,” the company said. “In fact, you already know them. Simply Natural worked with us when Maple View’s production was halted due to fire. The agreements are already in place so we can continue to serve you without skipping a beat. We love that Simply Natural is a family owned and operated North Carolina farm.”

The Maple View Agricultural Center will also remain open and the company said it hopes to resume classes and rentals in the future.

Bilateral beef trade and Canada’s dairy supply management system are top trade issues Canadian Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay is prepared to confront with the incoming Trump administration, he said on Monday.
