Milk production in New York increased over the one-year period from August 2020 to August 2021, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Production August 2021 totaled 1.30 billion pounds, up 0.3 percent from August 2020.

The average milk price received by New York farmers in July 2021, was $18.10 per hundredweight, represented 20 cent decrease from June 2021 and was down 40 cents from July a year ago.

The number of dairy cows within the state increased from 626,000 to 628,000 head of cattle statewide, according to the USDA. Milk production per cow remained stable at 2,070 ponds.
