Local residents had a chance to sound off on the possibility of a $25 million bond to help a dairy production barn south of Raymond.

The money would be for Riverview Dairy’s facility on County Road 17. Riverview LLP is based in Morris, Minn., but has locations in other states.

The bond would be used to assist in the construction of a livestock nutrient management system for the dairy, according to information filed with the state.

The condition of County Road 17 was a concern for a local citizen. He said the road is already in poor condition and that increased traffic would further deteriorate it and create safety issues between the dairy and Carpenter on U.S. Highway 212.

Other concerns voiced were about the prospect of increased field tiling and manure management and how they could continue to cause groundwater pollution issues.

Economic Development Finance Authority is involved with issuing the $25 million bond. The bond would not create state debt or be paid off with tax money.
