A University of Wisconsin-Madison research group found that it is possible for small organic farms to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and store carbon.
It was funded by Organic Valley and conducted on the company’s farms, which focus on grazing and organic production.
Horacio Aguirre, the UW-Madison scientist that led the study says it is great news for the agricultural industry.
“Even though agriculture can sometimes be a source of emissions, but it can also be part of the solution,” he said.
Organic Valley is also working on an additional carbon program set to help farmers implement projects like on-farm renewable energy and agroforestry.
