Lain Jager’s appointment becomes effective on December1, 2024, and a resolution to elect him will be put to shareholders at next year’s annual meeting in 2025.

The a2 Milk Company has appointed Lain Jager as an independent non-executive director of the company with effect from December 1, 2024. Jager brings extensive international agribusiness leadership experience to the board through his former role as CEO of Zespri International. Zespri is the world’s largest marketer of kiwifruit, distributed in more than 50 countries with revenue of $4.2 billion and operating profit of $230 million in FY24.

Jager’s nine years at Zespri from 2008 to 2017 included the development of a successful global growth strategy and significant increases in revenue and profitability. Since stepping down from Zespri, Jager has focused on private business interests including personal investments in a range of entrepreneurial, technology, and agriculture-related businesses. He is based in New Zealand.

The board has determined that Jager will be an independent director. He will also be a member of the board’s People and Remuneration Committee. With his appointment being confirmed after the notice of meeting for the upcoming annual meeting was circulated to shareholders and Jager’s appointment as a director becoming effective on December 1, 2024, a resolution to elect him will be put to shareholders at next year’s annual meeting in 2025.

Board chair Pip Greenwood said: “We are very pleased to appoint Lain as a director of the company. Lain has a successful track record as CEO of Zespri, a New Zealand primary sector market leader. We are looking forward to welcoming Lain to the board in December.”

The board has also determined that Sandra Yu will become chair of the board’s People and Remuneration Committee from November 22, 2024, replacing outgoing non-executive director, Warwick Every-Burns, who as previously advised is retiring from the board at the annual meeting to be held on that date.
