The event has something for everyone with a big focus on family, fun and even footy.
“We wanted the event to be a bit unique and engaging for our dairy producers,” general manager Chris McIlroy said.
“It’s been a tough year for everyone with Covid-19 and I think people are looking for things to be involved in and get excited about.”
Starting on Monday, January 18, and running until Thursday, January 21, Agri-Gene will showcase a series of online events, challenges and exclusive videos that embody the spirit and energy of IDW.
The competition will be judged by a very familiar face at IDW – Brian Leslie from Dairy Livestock Services.
“It’s something different. This year was a good opportunity to have some fun and look back on the many great cows that have been shown at dairy week,” Chris McIlroy said.
Participants need to select a show team of 10 cows from the supreme, broad ribbon and class winner categories and include a combination of at least three breeds.
There are three major prizes for the competition, with the winner getting the first pick.
The prizes include:
$1980 Semen Tank
$1500 Clarifide Tests
$1500 Agri-Gene Semen Voucher
Entries will open early January.
Agri-Gene has been involved in IDW for over 20 years.
“IDW is a huge event on our yearly calendar,” Chris McIlroy said.
“We support it each year and it is the only opportunity to catch up with breeders, resellers and like-minded cattleman from all states, in the same place, at the same time.”
Even the Agri-Gene staff have a passion for showing cattle at dairy week.
Agri-Gene’s dairy products manager Brad Gavenlock, attends IDW each year with his partner Jess.
Brad and Jess own Cherrylock Cattle Company and work together to prepare and parade not only their own cattle but many other breeders’ cattle as well.
“We’ve had some great success at IDW,” Mr Gavenlock said.
“We take a big team so there’s a lot of long hours and hard work put in but it’s all worth it of during IDW.
“I’m definitely going to miss catching up with people and the atmosphere of the show ring, but we have got some really cool stuff happening for Virtual Dairy Week, our Dream Team Competition is a great event for people to throw their competitive energy into.”
