Burra Foods notes ‘tough conditions’ with price rise

LAST week, Burra Foods announced a $0.10/kgMS step up to Milk Supply Partners for the period July 1, 2024 to June 30 2025.

This takes the Burra Foods milk price range for FY25 to $8.10/kgMs – $8.60/kgMS.

This improved price is in line with a 20 per cent rise in the Global Dairy Trade (GDT) index since the start of the financial year.

In a letter to Milk Supply Partners, CEO Stewart Carson acknowledged that improvement but also weighed other factors.

“Like the GDT, demand and pricing for our fat products has improved, whilst protein products have continued to be underwhelming,” Mr Carson said.

Mr Carson was mindful of the tough seasonal conditions impacting many of Burra’s Milk Supply Partners and the stresses that this can bring.

The adjustment by Burra follows similar moves by other medium-sized processors like Bulla and Union Dairy Company, which recently raised their prices by 20 cents.

Fonterra, Bega and Saputo have all announced step-ups.

Together with the other processing companies, Burra Foods had a strong presence at Farm World Lardner Park over the weekend.
