CEO of National Milk Producers Federation not confident for farm bill passage

The president and CEO of the National Milk Producers Federation says he does not expect a farm bill anytime soon.

Gregg Doud tells Brownfield…

“It’s going to be really tough to get this done in the lame duck session with everything going on.”

The former Chief Agricultural Negotiator in the Office of the United States Trade Representative says it could also be a challenge for the new Congress to pass a farm bill in 2025.

“There’s so many things to do next year in Washington with regard to the debt ceiling, budget reconciliation, tax and then your nominations and then you get into appropriations later on in the year. It’s going to be difficult to see where you squeeze in a farm bill on the calendar next year with Congress.”

And he says…

“The first half of next year, I think in most people’s opinion, we’re going to be talking about taxes in a pretty big way and and justifiably so. I think it’s a very, very big topic.”

Following the November election both chambers are in session for 20 days.

Brownfield interviewed Doud Thursday at the Agricultural Business Council of Kansas City luncheon, hosted at Kansas State University-Olathe.
