Saputo Dairy Australia donates 400,000 CHEER cheese slices annually to Eat Up to help feed students facing food insecurity.
Community Impact Saputo Dairy Australia Partners with Eat Up to Fight Childhood Food Insecurity

Processor commits over 400,000 CHEER cheese slices annually to expand free school lunch deliveries across 1,200 Australian schools.

An official corporate partnership update reported by Lorna Gloria for Retail World Magazine details a new national in-kind agreement between Saputo Dairy Australia and non-profit organization Eat Up. To combat rising childhood food insecurity, the dairy processor will donate more than 400,000 slices of its CHEER Tasty Cheese annually. The sustained supply of dairy products ensures vulnerable primary and secondary students have reliable access to simple, nutritious school lunches.

The expanded support arrives as Australian schools face unprecedented demand for meal assistance. Eat Up currently delivers free lunches to over 1,200 schools nationwide, with 68% of participating schools reporting a recent increase in students needing food support. For many children experiencing hardship, a fresh cheese sandwich provides critical protein and nutritional fuel required to maintain classroom focus, active participation, and daily well-being.

Saputo Dairy Australia Senior Vice President Commercial Cam Bruce highlighted that the partnership reflects the co-operative’s focus on delivering practical, community-level support. By converting everyday dairy staples into scalable charitable donations, the company aims to ensure its core product portfolio directly contributes to improving child health and educational outcomes in regional and urban centers.

The formal arrangement builds upon established employee volunteering initiatives between the two organizations. Since 2024, more than 350 Saputo staff members across various operating sites have participated in hands-on volunteering sessions, preparing over 18,000 sandwiches using donated Saputo butter and cheese products.

Eat Up Founder Lyndon Galea emphasized that multi-year corporate commitments are essential to sustaining large-scale food distribution without creating added cost pressures for charities. By securing a steady, reliable supply of quality dairy ingredients, Eat Up can continue expanding its logistics footprint to reach underserved schools and ensure no child goes hungry during the school day.
