A dairy farmer in Wisconsin said his property was destroyed by a tornado Thursday night, leaving one of his cows impaled by a 2×4 board.
The cow somehow survived, but a photo of her injury shows just how strong the power of mother nature can be.
Bob Schwandt, the owner of the 300-acre farm in Juneau, said the storm left a path of destruction. He’s lucky to be alive.

“I was in the small feed room that’s in between [two silos], so those silos probably really saved my life,” he said. “I knew I was fighting the weather because I could see it was really coming.”
Moments later, the tornado touched down.
After surviving the storm, Schwandt ran to his house nearby where his family was in the storm shelter.
“My wife and son thought that I might not even be alive anymore,” he said through tears. “Went I went in, they were just amazed. And I said, ‘We lost everything. Everything is gone.’ And they were just happy to see me.”

Despite the mass destruction, Schwandt said it could have been worse.
“You know, everything can be replaced. I said, ‘God was with us because otherwise we’d be all dead,’” he said.
Schwandt’s 84-year-old father said the farm has been in this family for decades.
“This is about the worst it can ever get,” he said. “I always say I never wanna live through something like this, but here it is.”
The Schwandt family will now turn their focus to cleaning up, knowing community is there to help.
“Within 20 minutes I bet you, we had about 100 people here,” Schwandt said. “Everybody’s like ‘What can we do?’ Your farm friends and neighbors really come to help.”
On Friday, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers met with the family at the farm and surveyed the storm damage.
