The course will increase participants’ knowledge of the Australian dairy industry, while in turn building on the dairy industry’s links with the investment community.
Dairy Australia’s industry insights and analysis manager John Droppert said the Deep Dive – Promoting Informed Investment in Dairy course was aimed at middle managers from financial institutions such as banks, investment houses and superannuation funds.
“The short course will allow participants to deep dive into the critical factors driving their investment decision,” Mr Droppert said.
“Ensuring current and potential investors have the comprehensive knowledge of the ins and outs of dairy is as important for other farmers and stakeholders as it is for the investors themselves.
“The difference between success and conspicuous failure can be significant for the reputation of the industry as a place to work, invest or consume products from. That has implications for all of us.”
Mr Droppert said the course aimed to build knowledge rather than to increase investment in the dairy industry.
“Our primary aim is to engage with the investor community in Australia and build their knowledge of the uniqueness that comes with investing in Australian dairy,” Mr Droppert said.
“Better investment is a preferable outcome to simply ‘more’ investment. Additionally, there is a wealth of knowledge in the investment community that the industry can draw upon through these connections.”
The new offering complements a range of initiatives targeting different parts of the industry, such as the farmer-focused Governance and Investment workshop series, the Australian Dairy Investor Guide publication, regular engagement with banks and Dairy Australia’s regular market and industry insights publications.
Macro-economic factors impacting farm profitability will be at the core of the course.
“Dairy is a unique industry for outside investors to grapple with, given the many idiosyncrasies of farm operation, management, market and regulatory issues,” Mr Droppert said.
“This course ensures the investors have the right information and access to the right data to make better informed decisions,”
The Deep Dive – Promoting Informed Investment in Dairy course is capped at 20 participants per year and will start in September 2021.
Dairy Australia will work with key organisations to nominate participants and ensure appropriate representation across institutions. The course will be delivered via a mix of online and face-to-face learning, featuring a range of speakers of different industry backgrounds offering their time and expertise.
Participants and their employers will pay a course fee to reflect the costs of delivering the course, in addition to funding their own travel and accommodation as required.
