IFA National Dairy Chairman Tom Phelan yesterday said that while Ireland is living through an exceptional public health crisis, the farming community depended on processors to maximise returns.

Mr Phelan reminded co-op boards, who will be meeting in coming days to consider milk prices, that dairy market returns continued positive in February, with the Ornua PPI returning at least 1.5c/l more than co-ops have been paying for January milk.

Local cheese maker Rowan Cooke was devastated when he heard King Island Dairy would be shutting down.
