Saputo has announced plans to cut 18 jobs at its Maffra and Cobram dairy factories in Victoria.

One of the two dryers at the Maffra plant will close on March 1 causing 18 voluntary redundancies.

At Cobram, Saputo will cease producing individually wrapped cheese slices in June and Saputo aims to redeploy affected workers.

Nationals MP Tim Bull said the surprise job cuts would cause big problems for the small regional towns.

Saputo’s newly-appointed chief operations officer Frank Guido is to step down for unstated personal reasons, the dairy giant has announced.
