Dairy product production

The USDA says July dairy product production waned alongside reduced milk supplies.

Total cheese production was nearly 1.2 billion pounds, down less than one percent from last year and the prior month. Italian cheese production was down 1.5 percent on the year and slightly above June while American cheese was up fractionally for the year and month.

Butter production totaled 157 million pounds, up 3.5 percent from the prior year but down more than three percent from the last month.

Nonfat dry milk declined nearly 19 percent from 2022 while skim milk powder increased more than two percent. Dry whey production was up more than three percent while lactose was lowered by nearly three percent on the year.

This is on top of an investment of €18,060 for extra soiled water storage and additional calf housing over the past ten years, based on a typical 100 cow dairy farm.
