Dairy production may be disrupted as workers consider strike action

Dairy production could be disrupted as 1,400 workers in Victoria consider strike action at the end of October.

United Worker Union members at 12 sites have voted in support of industrial action.

The members are seeking a 15 per cent pay rise over three years.

A union spokesperson says the strike action has the potential to impact domestic milk supplies and could result in companies having to dump milk.

The members will meet next week to consider walking off the job on October 18.

“Global cheese demand continues to surge, with total world cheese trade from all major suppliers up for 10 straight months through July,” USDEC economists said in the latest trade report.
