The University of Wisconsin-Platteville has awarded five faculty research fellowships to enhance dairy-related research through the Dairy Innovation Hub.
These fellowships, aimed at addressing critical challenges in the dairy industry, will support projects focused on land and water stewardship, human health, animal welfare, and farm business growth.
Funded by a $7.8 million annual state investment, the Dairy Innovation Hub is a collaborative effort between UW-Madison, UW-Platteville, and UW-River Falls to sustain Wisconsin’s dairy industry. Since its inception in 2019, the Hub has funded over 230 projects.
The selected faculty members bring diverse expertise to their research. Raymond Pugh will explore seed priming to improve alfalfa quality, while Joseph Sanford investigates biochar’s impact on dairy rotations.
Md Mamunur Rahman aims to enhance dairy calf health through precision livestock farming, and Zifan Wan focuses on improving organic fertilizer safety using plasma technology. Yanwei Wu will explore blockchain’s potential for data security in dairy farming.
These research initiatives are expected to yield significant benefits for dairy farmers, including improved feed quality, enhanced animal health, and increased sustainability.
