Potential Made Group acquisition signals push into high-growth, health-focused dairy and beverage segments.
Danone is reportedly in advanced discussions with TPG Capital to acquire Australia’s Made Group, in a deal estimated at around €1.2 billion. The move would mark a renewed attempt by the French dairy giant to secure a foothold in a company it previously considered acquiring in 2020 before withdrawing due to the pandemic.
Made Group operates a vertically integrated model spanning production, sourcing, packaging, and distribution, positioning it as an attractive platform in the fast-growing functional food and beverage segment. Founded in 2005, the company has built a portfolio centered on health-oriented products, including Cocobella, Rokeby, and The Collective, alongside additional brands in juices and enhanced beverages.
The company’s ownership structure has evolved in recent years, with Coca-Cola acquiring a 45% stake in 2018, followed by TPG Capital securing a 60% majority stake in 2021. At that time, the business was valued between AUD 300 million and 350 million, highlighting the significant valuation increase implied by the current offer.
Analysts view the potential acquisition as part of Danone’s broader external growth strategy, reinforcing its expansion in high-value dairy and nutrition categories. Following recent investments in brands like Kate Farms and Huel, the deal could strengthen Danone’s position in the Asia-Pacific region, where it has historically faced challenges due to local sourcing constraints.
While the proposed valuation—estimated at around 18 times EBITDA—suggests strong growth expectations and potential synergies, market observers remain cautious given recent high-multiple acquisitions in the sector. Nonetheless, the move reflects intensifying consolidation and strategic positioning in global dairy markets, particularly within premium and functional product segments.
