Last week, it was announced that a dairy ingredient facility in Pollock, South Dakota, will shut down on August 30.

Monday night, a meeting was held at the Community Center with Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) representatives on a virtual call to answer any questions the community might have.

33 full-time and four part-time workers will lose their jobs. According to the 2022 census, Pollock has a population of 225 people. DFA said it’s currently working on helping these workers find other jobs. Employees aren’t allowed to talk to the media yet.

The plant was built in the early 1960s and then changed ownership several times, becoming part of Dairy Farmers of America in 1998.
