Butter prices are showing some strength due to strong demand here at home and relatively tight stocks.
Forecasters say prices could come down a little bit going into next year. They say to expect lower Class II and Class IV prices by the end of 2022, which translates into a lower All-Milk price by $0.95 per cwt. Going into 2023, the All-Milk price is expected to drop to $22.50, down $1.65 per cwt. That’s down $2.70 per cwt. from 2021.
SCHOOL MILK WOES
Borden Dairy is closing two of its southern plants in September. One located in Alabama and the other in Mississippi. The closer announcement has left dozens of school districts scrambling to find milk to help keep school refrigerators full. The state department of education says it is working with vendors to provide an alternative, shelf stable milk. Officials are also working with the Dairy Alliance to locate producers in the area who might be able to help out.
