Farm economy trending in the wrong direction

A farmer from southeast Iowa says he’s concerned about the direction of the farm economy.

Tim Meyer says many growers are struggling. “The inputs are higher, seed came in a little bit higher, and it feels like to me that folks just don’t have the cash they had 12 months ago going into the end of the year.”

He tells Brownfield there’s some hesitation to sell grain that’s in storage. “We’ve got some prices that are under what we all cash flowed at this standpoint. I think we’re all suffering from some of the same things.”

Meyer raises corn, soybeans, cattle, and turkeys in Henry County.
