Several fire crews have responded to a fire at Fonterra’s Te Rapa plant, north of Hamilton on Tuesday morning.

Fire and Emergency confirmed it attended the incident shortly after 3am and found smouldering coming from one of the dryers.

A total of eight fire trucks were at the scene, with the fire fully extinguished a couple hours later.

In a statement, Fonterra said there was “a minor issue” at the Te Rapa site, but would not elaborate on what the issue was.

Director of New Zealand Manufacuring Alan Van Der Nagel said all of its people, and plant are safe and operations would resume again on Tuesday morning.
