Fonterra has announced an opening price of $8.60kgMS for the 2025/26 season.
The opening price assumes standard production and quality incentives and is made up of minimum monthly rates.
According to Fonterra Oceania managing director David Breckenridge current market conditions create uncertainty for the long-term outlook. Still, improved global market conditions pushed the opening price higher than the current season’s price of $8.35kgMS, announced just a month ago.
United Dairyfarmers (UDV) of Victoria and Dairy Farmers Victoria (DFV) expressed disappointment at Fonterra’s opening price. UDV president Bernie Free called it “a slap in the face” for all dairy farmers, while DFV president Mark Billing said the price falls short of what farmers need to cover feed and energy costs.
