Fonterra has added additional safety measures at its Edendale plant, near Invercargill, after a worker was seriously burned.
General Manager for Edendale/Stirling operations Andrew Johns said the co-operative carried out a full health and safety investigation to understand how the incident happened, but did not elaborate on the findings.
“Further safety measures to ensure the utmost safety of our people,” he said.
A worker was airlifted to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition after being burned while working on a boiler in November last year.
Johns said the incident happened during a routine operational task and that the worker had since recovered and returned to work.
A WorkSafe New Zealand spokesperson said the agency made enquiries into the incident but didn’t open an investigation.
“Fonterra then conducted a comprehensive investigation, identifying causes and implementing fixes to our satisfaction,” the spokesperson said.
