The first Global Dairy Trade (GDT) event of 2026, Event 395 held on January 6, delivered a strong signal to the international dairy market.

The GDT Price Index increased by 6.3% compared to the previous event, marking a clearly bullish start to the year and reinforcing expectations of a recovery in global dairy prices.

In price terms, the average winning price reached USD 3,533 per metric ton, reflecting stronger buyer willingness to pay and intense competition among bidders. These results were achieved amid high participation, with 177 registered bidders and 114 successful buyers, highlighting a dynamic market with solid demand at the beginning of the year.

The auction unfolded over 26 bidding rounds, lasting a total of 2 hours and 57 minutes, underscoring the intensity of the trading session. On the supply side, volumes ranged from a minimum of 27,936 metric tons to a maximum of 34,923 metric tons, while the total quantity sold reached 29,282 metric tons, in line with recent events.

This strong performance in the first GDT of 2026 sends a positive signal to producers, processors, and exporting countries, all closely watching international price movements after a cautious end to 2025. The sharp rise in the index suggests a scenario of firmer global demand, a key factor shaping dairy trade dynamics in the months ahead.
