The election cycle coincides with the standard rotation of two incumbent farmer-elected directors, Brent Goldsack and Cathy Quinn. While Quinn has confirmed her intention to stand for re-election, Goldsack is stepping down from the board following a nine-year tenure, creating an open seat for new candidate leadership.

The election workflow begins with the Independent Assessment Process, which runs a nomination window from July 31 to August 14, 2026. Candidates choosing this path will be evaluated by an Independent Assessment Panel composed of prominent governance leaders: Mark Verbiest (Chair of Meridian Energy and Summerset Group Holdings), Patrick Strange (director of Transgrid and former Chair of Auckland Airport), and Dame Therese Walsh (Chair of Air New Zealand and ASB Bank).

Following the panel’s review, the Returning Officer will announce the Independently Assessed candidates on September 21, 2026. On the same day, the Non-Assessment Process will open, allowing farmer-shareholders to put themselves forward independently without panel endorsement until October 1. The final, complete list of confirmed director candidates will be released on October 2.
